The transition from a few cubes to many was triggered by another fascinating set of cubes, called the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubiks_cube Rubik's cube]. It was a 3-D combination puzzle, invented in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik, which is also considered to be the world's best-selling toy.
